Fountain Valley is an Orange County, California city. The city encompasses nine square miles with a population of approximately 55,000 residents. Fountain Valley was incorporated in 1957; this is also when the city took its current name. Prior to 1957, the city was known as Talbert or Gospel Swamps. The city motto is “A Nice Place to Live.” Fountain Valley is approximately 30 miles from Los Angeles and 80 miles from San Diego. The city is bordered by Huntington Beach on the south and west sides, Westminster and Garden Grove on the north side, Santa Ana on the northeast, Costa Mesa on the southeast and the Santa Ana River on the east.

Fountain Valley students attend four different school districts depending on where they live in Fountain Valley. The four school districts are: Fountain Valley School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, Huntington Beach Union High School District and Ocean View School District. The Fountain Valley School District has nine elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, one kindergarten to 12th grade school and kindergarten to 8th grade schools. Huntington Beach Union High School District offers two different high schools for students in this city, Fountain Valley High School and Valley Vista High School. Garden Grove Unified School District has three elementary schools and one high school, Los Amigos High School. One of the three elementary schools is the blue ribbon award winning Allen Elementary School. Ocean View School District has only one school, which Fountain Valley students attend, Vista View Middle School. There are also three colleges in Fountain Valley; Coastline Community College, Orange Coast College and Golden West College.
With a Mediterranean like climate, Fountain Valley has gorgeous year round weather. The city is home to more than 20 parks. The largest is the Mile Square Regional Park at 640 acres. The park has two lakes, three 18 hole golf clubs, sports fields, an archery range, picnic areas and a 20 acre nature area. The nature area is dedicated to displaying native California plants. The second largest park is the 55 acre recreation center. The center has both a senior center and the Kingston Boys and Girls Club. The recreational center also has basketball courts, tennis courts and racquet ball courts.
